Event Brief

• Teams must design and construct a mini crane boom.
• Materials: Chopsticks and basic joining materials only.
• The crane should be able to lift a small load at the tip.
• It must not collapse, tip over, or break during the lift.

Rules and Regulations

• Team Size: 2–4 members
• Time Limit: 30–45 minutes for construction
• Materials Provided: 40–50 chopsticks, rubber bands, masking tape, or thread
• Materials to Bring: Scissors, string for hook suspension
• Dimensions: Base = 20×20 cm, Boom length ≥ 30 cm from pivot
• Load Test: Hook with string attached, loads added until failure/tipping
• Restrictions: No glue, pre-made connectors, or external support

Judging Criteria (100 Marks)

• Load Capacity: Max weight lifted – 40 pts
• Stability: No wobble/tilt – 20 pts
• Design & Aesthetics: Neatness, symmetry, load distribution – 15 pts
• Material Efficiency: Strong with minimal material – 10 pts
• Reach: Boom distance from base – 10 pts
• Time Bonus: Early finish with quality – 5 pts
• Total = 100 Points
